How it Works

For Each Round

  • Someone picks an artist – One participant picks an artist, album or similar
  • You pick a song by that artist – After an artist has been chosen, each participant picks a song by the chosen artist
  • Record your version of that song – Record a cover of the song you chose.
  • Share and support – Share your song, compare notes, and give each other kudos and constructive criticism.

General Rules

  • The artist for the next round will not be announced until everyone has completed their cover for the current round — or at the end of 2 weeks; whichever comes first
  • Choosing the next artist will be done in a round-robin fashion, with new participants being put in the front of the line
  • Recordings should in some way challenge the participant (take some time to craft your recording)
  • Recordings should be new from the time of the announcement (not already recorded in any way beforehand)
  • Everyone is encouraged to make constructive comments in line with goals of the participant
  • Participants may submit revised versions of their covers
  • Songs should be in reasonably compact mp3 format and under 5 minutes in length (to conserve on space)
  • Participants should declare themselves for a particular round so that we will be able to determine when a round ends
  • Participants are encouraged to add notes about their production so that other might be able to provide feedback and/or learn from each other

Special Rounds

  • Everyone records an original song
  • Everyone picks a song from someone’s favorites playlist; e.g. from a spouse or friend.
